Olivia’s New Bed
|
Since the day we brought Olivia home, she has slept in her crate beside our bed at night. We bought her crate from a friend who also has a Westie. It came with a really nice padding/liner. When Olivia was a few months old, she chewed the zipper on the liner and soon discovered that she could get to the padding part. One day I came home to find poly-filly-type material all over the inside of her crate. Since then, we have used beach towels for her bed. I just couldn’t justify spending the money to replace the padding/liner in her crate when I was almost certain she would chew it again. |

These days Olivia isn’t quite as chewy as she once was, so we felt comfortable getting her new bedding. Every day she takes naps on our bed and seems to love it, so we decided to go with something a little more soft than the typical crate padding. I decided I’d make a pillow for the bottom of her crate and then make some “pillow cases” that we could just take off and wash each week. So, Saturday Richard took me to the fabric shop and we bought all of the materials. I don’t have a sewing machine (yet!), so I used stitch witchery and it worked beautifully! I also bought Velcro but didn’t use it. We bought two lighter weight fabrics and one flannel (the fabric for the actual pillow is just plain white). I really like how everything turned out! Olivia slept on her new bed last night and seemed to like it! |

So crafty–love it! I love stitch witchery–it makes my life so much easier since I’m a clutz with the sewing machine!
[...] Last summer I got the bright idea to make a new bed for Olivia. The bed I made last summer was to go in her crate. At first, she didn’t like it and actually the first few nights after I made it, we had to take her new bed out and replace it with her old, chewed up beach towels so she’d quite crying and go to sleep. Eventually, she came to love her new bed. [...]
