Apparently I’m a Cowgirl

Published by Laura under School

It is really not my plan to become a once a week blogger! I intend to do better!

I have something funny to share…

Since moving here, I have met a few people from the south who have lived here so long they no longer have an accent. I have been so worried this will happen to me, it’s a wonder I haven’t had nightmares about it! Yesterday after school, I walked one of my students to the car rider area and I was on my way back to our classroom. I came upon two first grade girls from another class who had dropped some things. I stopped to help them gather everything and in the process, I chatted with them about the field trip we had taken that day. The three of us had our eyes focused on the mess we were cleaning up. I was mid-sentence and one of the little girls stopped picking things up and looked right at me and said, “Why are you talking like you’re a cowgirl?” You can imagine how hard I laughed! My response? “You girls have a good night! I’ll see y’all tomorrow!”

I’ll worry no more.

I’ve Been Knitting!

Published by Laura under Artsy-Crafty

Since I made the list of knitting projects I want to complete this year, I have made a point to knit more. I haven’t been knitting every night, but close to it! I may only knit a few rows each night, but it’s better than nothing. I have had this Wooly Stripes yarn for almost a year and have finally put it to use. I am not sure it’s really good use, but I used it. I knitted a scarf in seed stitch and I’m working on a matching hat. It’s almost finished, but the sad news is that I am out of yarn. I am venturing out to a local yarn shop today in hopes that they carry Nashua. Can you believe I’ve lived here for 7 months and haven’t stepped foot inside any of our local yarn shops? I think I just miss Yarn Mart too much. I am fighting back tears even typing about Yarn Mart–pitiful! BUT now I am desperate for this skein of yarn and am forcing myself to go!

Last night we watched what is possibly the worst movie ever made: Mary and Rhoda. It’s about a reunion between Mary and Rhoda. Richard and I both love Mary Tyler Moore, but this movie was horrible. I was glad to have these socks to work on!

Last but not least I finally finished this Fetching project. One glove is shorter than the other. I am hoping no one will look at both of my hands at the same time. The yarn I used is Calm Wool. It’s 40% wool, 30% camel and 30% alpaca. Quite honestly, it’s possibly the scratchiest fiber I’ve ever put near my body. The scarf feels scratchy on my neck, but the gloves don’t bother me. The color is gorgeous, but next time I will definitely choose a softer fiber.

I can’t decide which project I’ll tackle next. I should probably think about that before I go to the yarn shop!

Easy As Pie

Published by Laura under Artsy-Crafty, What's For Dinner?

I really didn’t mean to go so long without blogging. Things have not really been abnormally hectic, I just have not gotten around to blogging! Last night I spent some time working on a knitting project (fingerless gloves). The name of the pattern is Fetching. I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve worked on the gloves. The matching scarf is complete, so it’s high time I get the gloves finished, too! I’m finished talking about knitting for now. This is not what I’m supposed to be blogging about.

So what’s easy as pie you wonder? Well, this summer I had cable TV for the first time in years and I watched my fair share of the Food Network. After awhile, I got tired of it though and quit watching. So, now we’re back to paying a lot of money for cable and we never watch TV. Ok back to the point again.

While I was watching the Food Network, I learned a really easy way to dice bell pepper. Here’s the easy way:

We Made It

Published by Laura under Puppy, School

mondays

This is what I felt like most of the day today–and especially at 4:45 when my alarm went off this morning! I was at school very early preparing for the day/week ahead with my students. Since I was sick and we had 3 snow days, I had not been at school to get things in order. There was much to do and I needed every minute to get it all finished before my students arrived this morning.

I missed my students immensely over the holiday break. I was very excited to see them this morning! The first day back is always bittersweet for me though because something magical happens to my babies over the holiday and they come back not so babyish anymore. It is exciting to see them mature and become more independent, but it’s also a little sad for me!

They put up with me as I eased us through the day and we all made it to 3:38 with no problems! I am glad to be back with them. I can’t wait to see the progress they’ll make this semseter!

It Is a Soup Kind of Day

Published by Laura under What's For Dinner?

When I woke up this morning and checked the weather, the wind chill was 0 degrees. I was trying to stave off Olivia until I had finished my pilates and until the temperature increased by at least 10 degrees. But really is there a difference between 0 and 10 degrees? Bbbrrr! I got my pilates finished, but it’s still very cold outside! I think the last time I checked it was 11 degrees.

So, I decided to make Chicken and Rice soup today. It was a first for me and it turned out really good! It hit me while I was using the last of my Riceland rice that I forgot to buy more while I was in AR for Christmas. I’ll have to see if they sell it here. I didn’t add the yellow food coloring the recipe calls for just because I didn’t have any. The recipe is really straight forward. I’ll definitely make this again!

I thought the book list was such a great idea, I decided to do the same thing for my knitting projects. Since we got Olivia, I have not knitted nearly as much as I would like. I will try to work my way through the projects listed below this year and also maybe do some other projects to use some of the yarn in my stash!

Danica scarf

Misti Chunky Ribs and Ruffles scarf

Column of Leaves scarf
