Fetching

No, Olivia hasn’t quite learned to fetch yet (actually she’ll get the ball, but we’re still working on the whole bringing it back thing), but her mama has been hard at work on her knitting project called Fetching! I have almost finished the first fingerless glove and I have started on the second. I love this yarn (Calm Wool) and I am having a lot of fun with this project. I am seeing many more fingerless gloves in my future!

She’s a Growing Girl

I cannot believe how big this baby girl is getting! I weighed her today and she now weighs 10 lbs (7 lbs more than when we got her). She got a new toy coon over the weekend and she loves it! We go for walks every day and she also likes to play with her ball. One of her favorite places is our balcony. She is still working on enjoying baths. We have quite a ways to go. On Monday night Olivia put herself to bed at 8:00. She takes after her mama. Right now she is walking around the living room with her water bowl in her mouth. Do you think she’s trying to tell me something?

New Time Waster

If you need something to help you have another excuse to not work on your to-do list, this is it! It’s a lot of fun!

Come back and tell me how much money you earned!

Okay, so the title may be somewhat of an exaggeration, but we’re hopeful that it will be true someday soon.

The Green Dust

Published by Laura under School

On Monday I read a book about the solar system to my students. We are learning how to using non-fiction books to find answers to specific questions. After we read the book some of the students were sharing things they learned. During that time, one of my students asked me if I believe in aliens. I think my response was, “Some people do.” Her question got a lively discussion going amongst my 6-7 year olds about aliens. One of my little girls told this story:

I saw a UFO one time. It was coming down out of the sky and was swirling all around. Then the green dust started falling all over the place and then all of the aliens came out!

First grade is a fun place to be!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Published by Laura under School

valentines2

We had a great party today! The kids
loved delivering and receiving their valentines! One of my girls looked up at me with a huge smile on her face (dimples included) and said, “Mrs. Hughes, this is the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!” For a split second I thought it was because her teacher was wearing red stilettos and then I realized she meant she was having fun at the party!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Paper Hearts

Published by Laura under Artsy-Crafty, School

zh

Today my students made bags for
their valentines. We’re having our Valentine’s Day party on Friday. I demonstrated for them how to fold the paper and cut on the fold to make a heart and when I unfolded the heart they all clapped and cheered! They were so cute. You would have thought I had done a magic trick! We didn’t quite get finished with the bags this afternoon, so we’ll have to finish tomorrow morning, but they had a great time cutting out the hearts! I wish I would have had white bags, but somehow the project snuck up on me this year.

This is what happens when a 7 year
old picks up my camera and yells, “HEY, WHO WANTS TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH MRS.HUGHES?!?!?!” Fun times.

The Latest

Olivia has been really busy lately! I gave her some packing paper to play with. I am not really sure what I thought she was going to do with it, but I certainly didn’t envision this! She had a good time. No harm done.

A flowerpot got overturned (Olivia didn’t do it) and Olivia loved playing in the dirt! She even ate just a little bit of it. Maybe that’s why she’s growing so fast…. she’s eating dirt with Miracle Grow in it.

Well, I learned something new. Crayons aren’t toxic.

I cannot count how many times I threw the ball for Olivia tonight. She even brings it back to me. Check out those ears. Don’t be alarmed. She’ll grow into them, I promise.

She has been chewing on the same raw-hide bone for at least 2 hours now. Things are a lot calmer around here than they were 2 weeks ago. She’s growing up!

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

When I interned in a kindergarten classroom, the kids were really into “surveying” the class at random: “Raise your hand if…” So, I am going to play that game today: Raise your hand if you’re ready for spring! It feels way too early for this, but I already have spring fever! Winter seems pointless when I live somewhere where we don’t get snow. It’s as if I am enduring the cold with no reward and sometimes it’s not even cold and then I’m in the predicament of how to dress seasonally appropriate without being hot. It’s really a vicious, vicious cycle here in Central Arkansas. The groundhog said that we’ll have 6 more weeks of winter, but I don’t know if I believe it considering the temperatures we’ve been experiencing lately. It’s time to refresh the polish on my toenails (it’s been 2 wks!) and I am really torn between a winter color or a spring color. I know considering it’s February there really should be no question–I should polish my toenails a winter color. However, the spring fever is really getting to meĀ  and I am OH SO tempted to break out (or go buy some new!) spring polish! Really it makes no difference whether I go for a season-appropriate shade or not because I am the only person who sees my toes! The most difficult part of this whole toenail polishing process may not be choosing a shade, but finding a time to polish my nails when Olivia isn’t in full-force!
